Fateful New Year’s Eve Happenings In Country Music History

New Year’s Eve was not too kind to a number of country music legends. Way back on December 31, 1947, Roy Rogers was late for his own wedding to Dale Evans at the Flying L Ranch because he had to put out a fire in another room. The cause of the fire… a cigarette butt.

On December 31, 1952, Hank Williams was supposed to fly from Knoxville to Charleston, West Virginia for a New Year’s Eve show, but the flight was grounded due to bad weather. Hank gets a shot of morphine and hops in the back seat of his Cadillac for the ride. It turns out to be his final ride anywhere…

And, on December 31, 1985, Rick Nelson died when the plane he was in crashed outside of DeKalb, Texas. Nelson was the star of the TV series ‘The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, and he scored a couple of country hits with Stood Up and Poor Little Fool.

Be safe out there everyone. I want to see you all back right here tomorrow.

Don’t Mess With Kelly Clarkson, Or Blake Shelton Will Throat Punch You…

Recently, Kelly Clarkson has been attacked by many of her Twitter followers after she tweeted, “I love Ron Paul. I liked him a lot during the last Republican nomination and no one gave him a chance. If he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 he’s got my vote. Too bad he probably won’t.”

Personally, I don’t have a problem with celebrities, musicians or even athletes tweeting about their religion, politics or favorite type of peanut butter, but, if they do go down that road, they’d better have some pretty tough skin.

Fortunately for Kelly, she’s got one of country music’s biggest stars pledging his support. Blake Shelton tweeted yesterday, “@kelly_clarkson I love you!!!! I’ll listen to your viewpoints anytime. And I really wouldn’t mind throat punching someone for you either!!”

My favorite part of Blake’s tweet is this sentence, “I’ll listen to your viewpoints anytime.” (Well, I really loved the throat punch comment as well…) Why? Because that’s what it is. Kelly is giving her view. One of my best friend’s political and religious views are directly opposite from mine, but that doesn’t mean I hate him. On the contrary, I actually enjoy talking to him because I get to hear a different perspective from my own. Fortunately, we do agree on a few things like the love of country music.

Anyway, without getting too deep on you, just wanted to share my view, which is to lighten up. Disagree with the view, but the not the person. Trust me, it can be done…

Taped bi-monthly in front of a live studio/diner audience at NorthStar Studios (3201 Dickerson Pike, Nashville), the show’s spontaneity is part of the mystique of “Larry’s Country Diner” which contributes greatly to its success.  “The prevailing attitude at the diner is ‘…the cameras are always rollin’… and we don’t care,’” explains Larry Black, host and creator of “Larry’s Country Diner.

The fact that plates are dropped or broken during a performance, a rack of knives and forks are dumped on the floor or that some of the lights go out while they were filming makes the show all that more exciting in a day where even reality shows are produced within strict script guidelines.  “It’s the kind of television you just don’t see too much anymore and both the artists and fans love it,” states Black who adds, “We even tell our artists that once the tape starts rolling, it does not stop.  f you get yourself in trouble, get yourself out ‘cause we’re not stoppin’.

”Because of its popularity, getting a seat to see a live taping might prove more difficult than getting a reservation at one of L.A.’s most trendy posh restaurants—the first tables available are currently for the June 2012 taping, so you’ll want to plan way in advance. For reservations, please call 615-673-2846 or email paula@gabrielcommunications.com.

Taylor Swift’s Speak Now Tour Earns Nearly $100 Million In 2011

Whether you love her, hate her or are indifferent, you can’t help but marvel at Taylor Swift’s success. Reportedly, her Speak Now Tour earned almost $100 million ($97 million) during 2011. In 2011, she came in at number five on the list of top grossing tours trailing only U2, Bon Jovi, Take That and Roger Waters.

Three other country tours finished in the top 25 with Kenny Chesney coming in right behind Taylor at #6 ($84.5 million), Jason Aldean at #24 ($28 million) and Toby Keith at #25 ($27 million). To see the complete top 25 grossing concert tours of 2011, visit HollywoodReporter.com.

Outside of country music, I was a little surprised to see so many veteran acts included in the top 25: U2, Bon Jovi, Roger Waters, the Eagles, New Kids on the Block, Journey, Neil Diamond and even Iron Maiden were among them.

What about 2012? Which country act do you see joining Taylor, Kenny, Jason and Toby in the top 25?

Journey To Perform With Rascal Flatts On CMT Crossroads In 2012

Journey’s lead singer Arnel Pineda was on a show called “Kris TV’ on ABS-CBN a few days ago. According to LazyRocker.com, Pineda said, “The next tour will happen next year. We will have a two-show Crossroad thing with Rascal Flatts,” Pineda said. “It will happen on the third week of February in Nashville. They will sing a couple of Journey songs, then we will sing their songs.” Should be an interesting pairing. Here’s a clip of Rascal Flatts covering Open Arms live in concert. Enjoy!
