She is also currently starring in the new CMT reality series “Southern Nights.”

Bubba has moved on with the next chapter of his life, encouraged by a major publishing company to sit down and write a book about his thoughts on the cowboy life. “The Cowboy Code:  How to Treat a Lady.” The book will feature manly advice to the thousands of ladies who wrote with questions and inspired Thompson to give advice on how to get a man to cowboy up and treat them with the respect they deserve.

Review Of Casey James’ Self-Titled Debut Album ‘Casey James’

Casey James Debut Album

The opening track of “Casey James” bursts out of the gate with an anthemic salute to happiness. “The Good Life” is sung by a man content with the little things life has to offer and sure that he’s on the right track.

“No doubt I’m right where I belong, No part of this road feels wrong,” James sings in the song’s catchy chorus. It is a fitting launch to the recording career of an artist who seems comfortable and happy with where he is right now. And it’s easy to see why. Casey James has crafted an impressive debut that brings together his unique blend of blues, rock, country, and soul into a sound that is distinctly his own.

Casey James Playing His First CMA Fest

Casey Will Rock Out During the Day, Then Take it Down with an Acoustic Set that Night

By: Shari Geller –

The opening day of the Country Music Association Festival, CMA Fest, the biggest celebration for country music fans anywhere, might just be renamed Casey James Day. The American Idol third-place finisher, who is currently working on his debut album on Sony Nashville’s BNA Records label, will be taking part in three separate events on Thursday, June 9, 2011. Casey will be meeting fans before getting two play at two separate events which will showcase his great voice, his fierce guitar skills and his dynamic live performances.

First, Casey will be meeting with fans, taking pictures and signing autographs. at the Great American Country Booth, #216, in Exhibition Hall from 11:00 AM — 12:00 PM. Casey loves to get the chance to meet his fans in person. “I’m amazing blessed,” he told a recent interviewer, “i’ve got great fans.” Also, signing at the same time as Casey will be Randy Montana, Katie Armiger and another American Idol alum, Danny Gokey. For more information on the GAC Booth, click here.

After meeting with the fans, Casey will get to do what he really loves — perform for the fans. Casey will head over to the Lays Stage at the Bridgestone Arena Plaza where he will be playing from 3:20 PM — 3:45. The Lays Stage, located at Broadway and 5th Avenue, will be featuring “some of Country Music’s biggest hitmakers, legends and hot up-and-comers.” Casey will be available for a short time immediately after his performance to sign for fans, at the side stage. For more information, click here.

Finally, later that night, Casey will be playing a special set break acoustic performance on the LP Field Concert stage. The Country Music Association promises that the LP Field concert stage will be the site of “the best concert lineups of the year,” and with artists including Sara Evans and Ricky Skaggs also playing that night, it is easy to see that the CMA intends to deliver on that promise. Casey will be part of that great lineup, taking the stage before Brad Paisley, playing a short acoustic set that will highlight his amazing talents as a singer and guitarist. For more information on the happenings on the LP Field concert stage, click here.

While Casey James may be new to some of the fans at CMA Fest, he’s been a full-time singer-musician, playing in and around his home state of Texas a mix of 70’s rock, outlaw country and blues for nearly a dozen years. This spring he opened for Sugarland as part of their Incredible Machine Tour and will be back with them later this summer to play additional dates. Casey has also been playing other venues and events all across the country where he has picked up new fans for his electrifying live sets.

Casey James may be a newcomer to CMA Fest, but with his great voice and his wicked guitar skills, he’s sure to become a fan favorite.

Casey James: An Overnight Success Twelve Years in the Making

From (and by our friend on Twitter @ShariGeller, publisher of

American Idol May Have Given Him Instant Notoriety, but It’s His Experience as a Musician that Matters

Part of the myth of American Idol is that it plucks ordinary people from their regular lives and turns them into singers. The producers further that illusion of creating an overnight success by focusing on some aspect of the contestant’s lives unrelated to music. This was certainly the case last year with third place finisher Casey James. When the audience first saw James on the screen, he described himself accurately as a musician. Yet months later, when host Ryan Seacrest was announcing the final four contestants, James, who had built his own house, had suddenly become the “construction worker.”

While it is true that being on the number one rated television show does provide the contestants with instant notoriety, it would be wrong to confuse instant fame with not paying your dues. James has been nothing but a musician ever since high school, honing his skills, playing whenever, wherever and whatever – blues one night, country the next, rock the night after that. Night after night, with some concerts lasting three-four hours, playing till his fingernails came off and had to be superglued back on. James did not take a short cut or easy path to fame.

James’ only goal since he first picked up a guitar was to play music for the rest of his life. Nothing has changed for James since finishing American Idol; he has gone back to what he was before and what he always planned to be – a working musician. He is happiest when he is on stage playing his music for people, and recent photos and videos of him playing have captured the joy, passion and intensity he brings to every performance.

And yet in one significant way, everything has changed for him. James isn’t doing this all by himself, a struggling musician trying to eke out a living on his own with just his voice and his guitar. The days of setting up his own gigs, being his own roadie, arranging his own travel, making his own business cards, recording his own demo are over. What American Idol provided James was a platform – and he used it well and wisely. Given the chance to be seen by millions, he performed every week not for votes, but to show what he could do. He used the opportunity to show his range of influences and his ease and skill playing in a variety of styles. Every week was an audition of sorts, showing his talent as a singer and as a musician for the world to see.

Sony Nashville CEO Gary Overton liked what he saw and what he heard and made the decision to sign James to his BNA label. Since then, James moved to Nashville and has been hard at work on his debut album due out sometime this year. He has been collaborating with seasoned songwriters and musicians, famous stars and hit makers in their own right, and putting together a catalog from which the first album’s songs will be selected. He also put together a band to support him at a number of recent shows, comprised of very experienced musicians who can adapt to James’ eclectic musical taste.

James has been taking some of the new material for a test run, performing songs that may or may not end up on his record at a number of concerts over the last month, including a string of opening gigs for the hugely popular duo Sugarland. One of the songs was so new, the ink hadn’t dried on the paper on which the words were written by the time Casey debuted the song on stage. It is called “Hold On” and was co-written with Sugarland’s Kristian Bush during their Incredible Machine Tour. The others, from the sultry, bluesy “Let’s Don’t Call it a Night” to the propulsive “Drive” have received a very positive reception from fans – old and new, alike.

In recent interviews, James has said that he has some 60 new songs as well as older ones to choose from and is determined to take whatever time is needed to chose the right ones for the album. It may be tough for existing fans to have to wait for the record to come out, but James is in no hurry. After waiting some twelve years to finally be at the point where he is recording for a major label, he is not going to rush it. As Casey James knows, good things come to those who wait.

Casey James Performs At The Whiskey Tango In Kansas City, MO – PHOTOS & VIDEOS!

Our friend LaDonna, @LDG_lildrumgirl on Twitter, sent us these fantastic photos and videos from Casey James’ performance at the Q104 Birthday Bash at the Whiskey Tango in Kansas City, MO on Friday night, March 25, 2011.  Here is what she had to say about the night:

“It was another AWESOME meeting but this one was very normal, calm like I’d been talking with and old friend!! He’s a great guy! Very sweet, caring person!! His set was AMAZING!! I am glad I had this experience on such a low key level!! He was definitely the star of the night!! He out performed ALL of the other acts by far!!!”

During the concert, LaDonna even caught one of Casey’s drummer’s drumsticks, and Casey signed it for her (see photos below).
