Taylor Swift And Jake Owen Sit Atop The Country Charts And Cassadee Pope Makes A Big Splash

When will Taylor Swift’s run end? Who knows… For the week of December 8, 2012, Taylor’s ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ is number one again on the Billboard Hot Country charts for the 8th week in a row, which ties the all-time record for most weeks at number one for a solo female artist.

And, on the Country Airplay charts, Jake Owen’s ‘The One That Got Away’ took over the number one spot from Luke Bryan’s ‘Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye’.

The biggest debut of the week was current The Voice contestant and Hey Monday lead singer Cassadee Pope’s version of Miranda Lambert’s ‘Over You’, a song written by Miranda and Blake Shelton. The song debuted on the Billboard Hot Country charts at number three. Pope’s version of ‘Over You’ also debuted at number one on the Billboard Country Digital Songs charts. Congratulations Cassadee!

Enjoy a look at Taylor and Jake’s videos for their number one hits as well as Cassadee performing ‘Over You’ live on The Voice:

Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, Lady Antebellum and Taylor Swift Win Country Music Awards At The 2012 American Music Awards

The 2012 edition of the American Music Awards will forever be known as the Bieber edition that garnered the lowest ratings in it’s history. In case you didn’t see it, Justin Bieber won the Artist of the Year award as well as a couple of other awards. Since this is country site, that’s all I’ll say about Mr. Bieber.

The big winners in the country music category though were:

Country Female Artist: Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift Blows Everyone Away And Takes Over The Top Two Positions On The Country Charts

Wow! Last week, Taylor Swift’s single We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together was sitting just outside the top 20 at number 21. Fast forward one week (Billboard Country Chart for the week of October 20, 2012), and it’s bolted all the way up to NUMBER ONE!

Love her or hate her, there’s no denying how popular she is. And, her single Red is knocking on her own door. It debuted on the charts this week at number two. She’s even got another song, Begin Again, that jumped from #37 to #10. That’s pretty darn impressive…

So, how’d she do it? Well, upon further investigation on Billboard.com, it seems Billboard has made a change to how it calculates the top 50 Country Songs. According to the site:

Billboard unveils new methodology today for the long-standing Hot Country Songs, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Latin Songs charts.

Each receive a major consumer-influenced face-lift, as digital download sales (tracked by Nielsen SoundScan) and streaming data (tracked by Nielsen BDS from such services as Spotify, Muve, Slacker, Rhapsody, Rdio and Xbox Music, among others) will now be factored into the 50-position rankings, along with existing radio airplay data monitored by Nielsen BDS.

The makeovers will enable these charts to match the methodology applied to Billboard’s signature all-genre songs ranking, the Billboard Hot 100.

So, since we already knew that Taylor is the Queen of all things digital, it’s a pretty safe bet that every song she releases will eventually make it to number one.

What this new ranking also means though is some of the other acts who have a huge following on the web and Social Media, but haven’t been getting a a lot of airplay on the radio, will now have an opportunity to chart.

So, if your favorite band or singer isn’t on the charts, you can now influence their position on the charts by downloading their music and sharing it on Social Media sites. Another group who benefited tremendously from the new chart methodology this week are the guys from Florida Georgia Line. Their single Cruise jumped all the way from #19 last week to #6 this week. Congrats guys!

Have a look at the official music for Taylor’s newest #1, and just in case you haven’t heard it yet, have a look at Florida Georgia Line’s new top ten hit Cruise.

Taylor Swift’s New Album To Be Released October 22nd – Watch Her Webchat And G+ Hangout

Taylor Swift’s highly-anticipated fourth studio album will be released worldwide on October 22nd, Taylor herself announced last night during a live YouTube web chat with her fans. Entitled Red, the album will be released on Big Machine Records and contains 16 tracks. After writing her last album (Speak Now) entirely by herself, for this record Taylor collaborated with several artists, producers, and songwriters she had always wanted to work with.

“For the last two years, I’ve been working on an album called Red,” Taylor says. “I called it Red because of the tumultuous, crazy adventures in love and loss that it chronicles. In my mind, when you experience love that’s fast paced and out of control and mixes infatuation, jealousy, frustration, miscommunication, and all of those lovely emotions…in retrospect, it all looks red.”

The first single from Red, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” (written by Taylor Swift, Max Martin, Shellback) has already arrived at radio and will be available today at iTunes and Google Play, and beginning today worldwide at all digital retail outlets. Album pre-sale dates will be announced in the coming weeks.

Taylor’s YouTube chat can be viewed in its entirety below…

About Taylor Swift:

Twenty two year-old Taylor Swift is a six-time GRAMMY winner, and is the youngest winner in history of the music industry’s highest honor, the Grammy Award for Album of the Year (for Fearless, released in 2008). Her 2010 album, Speak Now, was lauded on Rolling Stone’s prestigious The 50 Greatest Albums of All Time (by women) list, and Time magazine has named Taylor one of the 100 most influential people in the world. Earlier this summer, Rolling Stone called Taylor “one of the few genuine rock stars we’ve got these days, with a flawless ear for what makes a song click.” She is Billboard’s Woman of the Year, as well as the reigning American Music Awards Artist of the Year, and both the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music’s current Entertainer of the Year. She is also the most awarded star in the history of the Teen Choice Awards, taking home honors for both music and movies.

Taylor, who writes all of her own songs, has career record sales in excess of 22 million albums and 50 million song downloads. Each of her three studio albums has sold in excess of 5 million copies worldwide, and her most recent album, Speak Now, is one of only 17 albums in the entire history of music to sell more than 1 million copies in a single week. She has had singles top both the country and pop radio charts around the globe, is one of the top 5-selling digital music artists worldwide, and is the top-selling digital artist in country music history. Taylor holds the Billboard records for the Most Top 10 Debuts in the History of the Hot 100 Chart, the Most Charting Songs from One Album in a Single Week, and the Longest Charting Album on the Top 200 Chart. Speak Now is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the Fastest Selling Digital Album by a Female Artist.

Earlier this year, Taylor wrapped her world tour in support of SPEAK NOW, and played 111 shows to more than 1.5 million fans in sold-out stadiums and arenas in 19 countries spanning four continents in 2011 and 2012. Her 107-date FEARLESS 2009/2010 Tour sold out arenas and stadiums in 88 cities in five countries. Taylor voiced the character of Audrey in the 2012 hit movie “Dr. Seuss’s The LORAX,” and also this year, she contributed two songs to the soundtrack of the movie “The Hunger Games.” She has hosted Saturday Night Live, appeared in the Garry Marshall film “Valentine’s Day,” and guest-starred on the Emmy-winning TV drama CSI.
